சில முக்கிய நினைவுகள்

FIFA அமைப்பானது விளையாடும் நாடுகளை 24 லில் இருந்து 32 ஆக உயர்த்தியது.ஆனால் ஒவ்வொரு குழுவிருந்தும் முதல் 2 இடங்களுக்குள் வரும் டீம்கள் மட்டுமே அடுத்த ரவுன்டுக்கு அனுமதிக்கபட்டன..

இந்த சிரீஸில் மிக அருமையாக விளையாடி அனைவரையும் ஆச்சர்யத்தில் ஆழ்த்தியவர் Croatia வின் Davor Suker.

பிரான்ஸின் டீம் மேனஜர் சாலிட் டீம்மை அமைத்திருந்தார்.. இந்த சிரீஸ் முழுவதும் பிரான்ஸ் 2 கோல்களை மட்டுமே பெற்றது.. இதற்க்கு Defense எவ்வளவு முக்கியம் என்பது அனைவரும் அறிந்த ஒன்றே. இதில் லின்க்ஸ் மேன் ஆக செயல் பட்ட எனது Thuram பேவரெட் :-) . தல Zizou பத்தி சொல்லவில்லை என்றால் நான் தல விசிறி என்று சொல்லுவதில் அர்த்தம் இல்லை.. தல மாதிரி பால் கன்ட்ரோல் பண்ணுறது அப்போது / இப்பொதும் யாருமே இல்லை. தல பத்தி எனக்கு ஒரே ஒரு டவுட்தான் இருந்தது.. யுவன்டஸில் இருந்த போது Heading இல் சில முக்கியமான கட்டத்தில் சொதப்பி இருக்குறார்.. ஆனா பைனலில் தல அடிச்ச முதல் 2 கோல் சிம்பிளீ சூப்பரப்பு..

பிரேசில் டீம் Ronaldo-Romario கூட்டணிய நம்பியது.. ஆனால் Romario வின் Injury அவரை வரவிடாமல் தடுத்துவிட்டது.. என்னுடைய தனிபட்ட கருத்தில் Ronaldo ஒரு சில மேட்ச்சில் மட்டுமே நன்றாக விளையாடினார். ஆனால் Rivaldo and Bebeto அப்படி இல்லை..

இங்கிலாந்தின் அர்ஜென்டினாவுக்கு எதிரான மேட்ச்சில் தனி ஆளாக Micheal Owen அடித்த கோல் வாவ் என்று சொல்ல வைத்தது.. ஆனால் அதே மேட்ச்சில் பெக்காம்மை Red card காட்டி வெளியேறியது சரியான முடிவு..

இந்த சிரீஸ் முழுவதும் 22 பேர் கார்ட் வாங்கினார்கள். கேமரூனின் Rigobert Song 2 முறை வெளியேற்றபட்ட Red card பெருமையை பெற்றார்.

முதல் ரவுன்டில்

ஸ்காட்லான்ட்க்கு எதிரான இந்த மேட்ச்சில் Ronaldo நன்றாக விளையாடினார்.



கேமரூனுக்கு எதிரான இந்த மேட்ச்சில் Christian Vieri விளையாடிய விதத்தை பார்த்து மற்றுமொரு Paolo Rossi இத்தாலிக்கு கிடைத்துவிட்டார் என்று மீடியாகள எழுதின :-). இத்தாலி 3 - 0 என்ற கணக்கில் வென்றது



South Africa க்கு எதிரான இந்த மேட்ச்சில் Thierry Henry அடித்த கோல சூப்பர். Thierry Henry அப்பொழுது புதுமுகம் முதல் ரவுன்டு முழுவதும் பிரான்ஸ் 9 கோல் அடித்து உலககோப்பையை வெல்லும் முயர்ச்சியில் நாங்களும் இருக்கிறேம் என்று சொல்லியதை நம்ப வேண்டியதாயிற்று..



Saudi Arabia க்குஎதிரான இந்த மேட்ச்சில் பிரான்ஸ் 4 - 0 என்ற கணக்கில் வென்றது.. இந்த மேட்ச்சில்தான் Zizdane Red card காட்டபட்டு வெளியேற்றபட்டார். Bixente Lizarazu அடித்த 4 வது கோல் இது.



Andoni Zubizarreta Spain (goal keeper) seconds after making a schoolboy error against Nigeria which would cost Spain dearly in the end. "Zubi" steered a cross from the right into his own net. The Africans ran out 3-2 winners in this entertaining match.




Davor Suker gets the winning goal for Croatia against Japan thirteen minutes from time with a trademark finish from inside the penaltybox.



Gabriel Batistuta celebrating one of his three goals against Jamaica. Batigol became the first man in World Cup history to score a hat-trick in multiple tournaments.

2 - வது ரவுன்டில்

Laurent Blanc (france) finally finds a way through the brave Paraguayan defence to score with a nice volley. 113 minutes on the clock and France escaped the frightening scenario of facing Chilavert in a penalty shoot-out where all the pressure would have been on the hosts.



Michael Owen (England) has just scored his famous solo-goal against Argentina and England are 2-1 up already after fifteen minutes. Beckham joins in the celebration.



Disaster for England. Referee sends off David Beckham for his clumsy challenge on Diego Simeone. Gary Neville (12) knows the task of winning is even tougher now.



"...Pearce, Waddle, Ince. Don't join them......He has joined them". David Batty's weak attempt is saved by Carlos Roa and Argentina are through to the quarterfinals.

கால் இறுதியில்


Robert Jarni puts Croatia one nil up with this strike from long range against Germany in the quarterfinal. The Germans were down to ten men when Wörns was harshly sent off for a foul on Suker before this goal was scored. They failed to recover and lost 3-0 in the end.



Ariel Ortega(Argentina) is sent off for head-butting the Dutch Goal keeper . It was a clumsy and unnecessary action from the little wizard who had played remarkably well throughout the tournament.



Oh boy not again for God sake.....Italy out of the World Cup on penalties for the third time in a row. This time to France. Roberto Baggio was a member of all those teams, but scored in this shoot-out. Demetrio Albertini (on the ground) missed his attempt.



Rivaldo(Brazil) emerged as one of the most entertaining players in the World Cup. He scored the matchwinning goal in this quarterfinal against Denmark with a long range effort.



அரை இறுதியில்

Laurent Blanc(France) was sent off for pushing Slaven Bilic in the penalty area before a corner. The referee read it as a knock in the face which Bilic made it look like when he fell to the ground as if Mike Tyson had slaughtered him.



Zinedine Zidane with perfect control despite Croatia's Mario Stanic attempt of tackling him. Zizou was world class in the latter stages of the tournament.



Lilian Thuram had never previously scored for France before he scored twice in the semifinal against Croatia. He looks as if he still can't believe it.

இறுதி போட்டி

Rivaldo(Brazil) failed to connect well with Bebeto and Ronaldo in the final. Here challenged by Djorkaeff(France).



Barthez(France) and Ronaldo(Brazil) crashing into eachother in the final. Brazil found no way through the French defensive wall.



Zinedine Zidane outjumps Leonardo and heads France in front in the final. Zizou was never regarded as a particularly good player in the air, but having scored two headed goals in the final most people had to reconsider that.



Marcel Desailly is sent off for this bad foul on Cafu in the final. Even with one man more on the field, Brazil were unable to threaten the French in the second half.



Emmanuel Petit races clear to score France's third goal in the dying seconds of the match. 3-0! Cafu and Taffarel know the game is over. The day belongs to Petit and France. The largest winning margin in a World Cup final since Brazil themselves outplayed Italy in 1970.





Heavily criticized before the World Cup, coach Aime Jacquet now had his time of revenge. Here carried around the field holding the cup aloft.
